AllyCog: Step aside, skinny jeans!

Do you ever feel like you're constantly choosing between either skinny jeans or a dress when trying to decide what to wear for a night out? Sure, each can be dressed up or down and for cold or warm weather, but recently I've been getting bored with what feels like the same old, same old. I wanted something sophisticated but still fun with the versatility of the aforementioned articles of clothing. Here are the conclusions I came to:

Leather shorts - or faux leather, for those of us on a budget (see previous post about not buying things I want, but don't need, because of a wedding) - are a fresh take on dress shorts. They're perfect in any type of weather, but especially now since you can wear them with either solid or patterned tights and a pair of booties. Personally, I'd also opt for a loose, baggy, or flowy top to balance out the outfit and create proportion.

For something a bit fancier, I'm loving sequin skirts. Black creates a sleek look while something with color is more playful and fun. Keeping the rest of the look simple is key, so a boyfriend blazer is the best complement to such an attention-grabbing piece.
