I have to be honest -- I've been keeping something from you all. No, it's not a fabulous new coat or pair of shoes. We all know I couldn't keep those a secret for long, anyway. It's actually a pretty big piece of news that I'm so excited to finally be able to share...I'm pregnant!

Vincent and I are ecstatic and feel beyond blessed to start this new chapter in our lives. It's been a really rough couple of months following the loss of my dad (side note: we actually found out I was pregnant while he was unconscious in the hospital but before he passed away -- talk about an emotional roller coaster) but are incredibly thankful to have this new life to celebrate!

We can't wait for our little one to arrive, which is tentatively May 18. That means I'm actually about halfway there! I didn't share earlier because, honestly, I wanted to keep things as normal as possible around here for as long as I could. I'm not really showing yet, so the bump has been pretty easy to conceal, but that's going to get more difficult with each passing day! I also want to be able to share glimpses into this journey a little bit, but promise to not get all "mommy blogger" on you. Plus, I can finally make my secret Pinterest boards public. Which is obviously a top priority. Le duh.

And since this is all new to me, I'm open to any/all advice the mommas out there may have. This is our first, so there's been lots of Googling/What to Expect When You're Expecting reading going on in these parts!

Alison

  4. Congrats pretty lady! Welcome to the club :) If you ever need to gush or chat, I'm totally available. Books I've found helpful/enlightening: The Baby Book (Sears), Ina May's Guide to Childbirth, The Bradley Method of Natural Childbirth (husband coached childbirth - regardless of what you decide to do in the delivery room, this book is written by a man for a man. So its good for the hubs to understand what you are going through. It describes what you are dealing with each trimester and birth and after. Then advises him on how to be kind and understanding. So helpful.)

they say to be pregnant is to be vitally alive, thoroughly woman, and undoubtedly inhabited.

  16. Alison!!! So excited for you and Vince!!! I'd been looking at your blog as of late and have caught myself thinking "She's glowing...could she ... ??? " Sooo happy for you and Vince!
A few great resources to mention for you (a lot of my friends have been pregnant in the last 2 years or so and I worked in a nursery before heading to school): Lucie's List (a website that reviews a lot of baby items to help you figure out what you do/don't need) and "Mom's On Call" (a book that morphed from a patient education resource for new Mommies leaving the hospital into a small book...all kinds of great, practical stuff and it was written by two nurses).
My best to you and Vince! Congrats!

  19. Congrats! That is beyond exciting & you deserve something to look forward to in 2014!

I found the pregnancy books like What to Expect helpful but don't get too overwhelmed with reading up on parenting books. At this point a lot of it is trusting your gut & then reading up on issues/questions when they come. The best thing I did was take a class at our hospital that went through the birthing process & then gave us a tour of the hospital. It was specific to our hospital so you knew exactly what was going to happen & it made it a little easier to anticipate what it was going to be like.

I also have some fashion/clothing advice if you end up getting a c-section. Because that I did not find any useful info on!

Once that baby snuggles up on you its all over. They are awesome.

  24. Oh Alison, I am so thrilled for you two! How very exciting and wonderful, and what great pictures to capture the moment!

I was a super crunchy pregnant woman, but ended up having a hospital birth with an epidural. I'm happy to offer any advice, but the best thing I can tell you is when that little one arrives, it's like your brain downloads Service Pack B and you suddenly know what to do. I had never changed a diaper before and feared babies but Day 1 I got the hang of it. Trust your gut from this day forward, you ultimately know what's best for the both of you! <3
