The case for mirrored sunglasses

I'm not sure when, how or why it happened. It started with a repin. And then another. And then a full blown search for options, styles, colors, etc. A trend that, only a few months ago, I described as "fleeting" and hoped, out loud, would simply fade into obscurity was now inching towards the top of my wishlist and even made its way into my Tuesday Temptations.

I'm talking about mirrored sunglasses, my friends. You know...the colored ones that reflect the image of everyone and anyone you come face to face with in unnaturally bright reds, greens, blues and yellows. I had despised them for months, when suddenly there was this person at my computer scrolling through images on Pinterest and wondering what color would look best.

Who was I? A fraud? A phony? Or worse, a hypocrite, for having changed my mind on something I clearly thought I had a solid opinion about?

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say no, and use this as an important lesson to myself (and hopefully all of you!) to not completely discount certain styles and trends and, if you do, it's okay to change your mind. Some things take time to warm up to while others fall into the "you don't know until you try category." I've found that taking risks and having fun with fashion is half the reason why I love it so much! Heck, I remember when I didn't like skinny jeans! Could you imagine if I was still holding on to that one? *Shudder*

Mirrored sunnies

One | Two | Three | Four | Five | Six | Seven | Eight | Nine | Ten

I don't equate my new affinity towards mirrored sunglasses with their rise in popularity, either, as I've always been one to like what I like and forget the rest. I enjoy the cycle of trends, but I'm not a slave to them, and I hope that comes across here!

So there it is. My healthy dose of crow for the day in the form of neon sunnies! But more importantly, I want to hear your thoughts. Do you like this trend? And do you ever feel hypocritical for changing your mind on a trend after you've already declared it a no-go for your personal style? I'd love to hear what you think!

XO,
Alison

  1. I appreciate your honesty! I too get occasion pangs of hypocritical feelings after declaring a yay/nay on a trend, but how paralyzing it would be if we had to be resolute on every sartorial choice? Change away! :)

  5. I LOVE mirrored sunglasses! I finally broke down and bought a really cheap pair a few weeks ago (they have silver lenses but really bright coral frames) and I've been living in them. They're so fun!

  6. Nothing wrong with changing your mind on a trend! At least you went from no to yes, whereas I usually go from "Yes" to "OMG what was I thinking?!"

  7. I LOVE them and I want a pair ASAP, although I will probably buy a cheap urban or forever 21 pair since I always lose sunglasses...

  8. I have to make sure whatever sunglasses I pick I like them because I use prescription sunglasses so I'm stuck with the pair I pick until 2 or 3 years later. I just got a lovely pair of miumiu sunglasses in the shapes of pentagons <3 but I just noticed they are made of suede which is not ideal for the beach... meh but I'll just use my old ones at the beach.
