Five Things

You've probably seen the Five Things posts that are popping up around the blogosphere. I've actually really loved reading them because it's always fun to learn new (and sometimes quirky!) things about people you follow on a daily basis. I'm generally pretty open about sharing what's going on in my life with you all anyway, so when Lacey tagged me, I thought, "Why not?"

1. I'm shorter than you think. Even if you've never met me, you can probably tell from my photos that I'm...ahem...petite. In fact, I only stand at a whopping 4'10". Which is taller than Snooki, by the way. Truth be told, I've never felt all that short and it's not something that's ever really bothered me. I always say that there are so many things you can change about yourself, but your height isn't one of them. (Unless you opt for that surgery where they break your femurs and insert rods so you can gain a few inches. Errr, no thanks.) Plus, I can get away with wearing ridiculously high heels :)

Even in heels, I'm pretty tiny next to blogger BFFS Lacey and Meaghan.

2. I actually like video games. While I may be an only child, I grew up in a neighborhood with a lot of boys. Boys who liked video games. My favorite games were mostly by Nintendo and I even owned many of the consoles (Super Nintendo, N64, Game Cube, Wii) myself. I don't play too often anymore, but it's not uncommon for me to jump into a game of "Call of Duty" with the husband every once in a while. Best wife ever? I think so! Bonus fact: My favorite game EVER is "The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past" for Super Nintendo. Judge if you must.

3. I don't drink anything with caffeine in it because it makes my throat feel like it's closing up/gives me heart palpitations. "How do you survive?" is the question I get most often when I tell people this. I actually used to live on coffee in college (who didn't?) until it started having these weird effects on me. Certain wines/stress can also cause the heart palpitations, and I even had tests done - including wearing a monitor for 24 hours and a heart sonogram - about a year and a half ago. Fortunately, I'm fine, and have learned to stay away from certain triggers. I still drink decaf coffee every morning, though, because I love the taste!

4. I lived in the same house my entire life. Until I got married, that is. My mom found out she was pregnant with me while my parents were building our house. And while most people move every 5-10 years or so, they've stayed put. This also means that I went to school with the same people from kindergarten all the way through senior year of high school! The first time I ever moved (except to/from college, which doesn't count), was from Pennsylvania to the D.C. area after I got married in 2011.

5. I actually have really good aim. I've always been pretty good at hitting a target, but recently found out I'm particularly good with a .20 gauge shotgun and can consistently hit a moving target. #Random. I'm clumsy by nature, so this came as a shock to me just as much as everyone else! Maybe I have fun fact #2 to thank for this hidden talent?

All photos via my Instagram.

So that's it! Five random things you may or may not have wanted to know about me ;) To keep it going, I'm tagging Liz, Lauren, Sarah, Abbey and Cathy. Can't wait to see what you ladies share!

XO,
Alison
