Purse Picks : Not quite McQueen

I'm all about getting the look for less. Of course I would always love to own the real thing, but sometimes your real budget gets in the way. This is especially true when it comes to purses or handbags, since many tend to carry (pun intended) a hefty price tag.

Needless to say, I was pretty stoked when I stumbled upon this clutch - which is strikingly similar to the one by Alexander McQueen that I drooled over at the Neiman Marcus event. It has the signature brass knuckles, plenty of skulls, and a fun python print to give it some texture.

I usually tend to stay away from something that can be considered a "knock off," but there are enough differences between the real McQueen and this clutch to make it noticeable. And many real, respected retailers - not just those purse guys hawking fake merchandise on the streets - are getting on the replica bandwagon. Even J.Crew recently made a handbag strikingly similar to the ever-popular Celine tote. Even though it still carries a decent sized price tag (especially if you get it in leather), it's a fraction of the thousands you'd spend for the real thing!

What are your thoughts on replica pieces? Yay or nay?

Have a fabulous weekend! XO

  1. I think when its from a respectable store then its fine. We can't all afford to spend thousands on bags & this is a good alternative!

  2. It's such a fine line between being inspired by a designer piece and copying a designer piece. I think the bag you show looks as though it is inspired, not copied and therefore okay. However I would never wear a bag that could ever trick someone into thinking it's the real deal (or think I think it's the real deal). I was talking about this recently with my sister, saying how I couldn't ever carry anything that even slightly looks like a Birkin because it's so iconic and everything else is a cheap copy, even if they don't mean it to be.

    1. I'm glad you made the point about the Birkin. Last year when my friend was in town, we went to H&M and she saw this cute bag that(unfortunately) looked like a Birkin. I mean, complete replica. I begged...pleaded...almost cried for her NOT to buy it. She thought I was crazy but I told her, you will thank me later.

Regarding the question, like Alison said, as long as it's inspired and not a complete replica or knockoff, I'm good with it.

  3. Hmm I think it depends. A fake coach bag? Embarassing. A tribute McQueen clutch? I can get onboard.

  4. I say yay...because then us everyday gals can have things that "look" expensive without going completely broke! :)

  5. well, it think it's tacky to go on a side street of Georgetown and buy a fake bag, but i think it depends to think nobody came make a knuckle ring inspired clutch is crazy to me. i think making sure it's inspired and not completely copied.I think copying is wrong but inspired no, because pretty much everything we buy is inspired in some sort of way. Like the clutch shown above isn't that bad to me. Even the bigger designers inspired off of each other.
